The world's largest electric vehicle manufacturer BYD is going to build its first manufacturing plant in India. According to a business Standard report, the location for this has been chosen in Rangareddy district of Telangana, about 60 km from Hyderabad. The company has taken this decision to deal with the rising tariffs in the US and the european union, which have talked about imposing heavy duty on the import of Chinese goods.

BYD is expected to partner with Hyderabad-based Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Limited (MEIL) to comply with indian regulations. MEIL will have a higher stake in this. BYD is going to enter india at a time when the export of Chinese electric vehicles is banned due to tensions over trade with the US and the european Union.
On one hand, the european union has imposed a tariff of up to 35.3 percent on the import of Chinese electric vehicles. While BYD is facing a tariff of 27 percent in Europe. Meanwhile, the US has also increased the tariff on the import of Chinese electric vehicles four times to 100 percent. India's EV policy and the growing demand for electric vehicles in the country are in favor of China.
There may be tough competition from tesla in India
BYD (Build Your Dreams), formed in 1995 as a battery manufacturer, entered the automotive sector in 2003. In 2024, its cars sold more than tesla worldwide. Tesla's market share in china has fallen from 16 percent in 2022 to 4.3 percent in 2025 as BYD's hold on the market is getting stronger. Now the question arises whether BYD will overtake tesla in india too? The answer to this will be found in the coming years.

The biggest specialty of BYD is that its Super E-platform gives a charging speed of up to 1000 kW, which is twice the charging speed of Tesla's 500 kW.
Along with this, blade battery has been used in it, which supports 10C charging multiplier. With this, the battery gets fully charged in just 6 minutes.
Many of its models can swim in water along with rough roads. It has many other electronic features, which make it number one.
