Govt proposes greater sops for scrapping motors with BS-II, older emission preferred


With an intention to cast off high-polluting vehicles, the transport ministry has proposed to double the rebate as much as 50 consistent with cent in one-time tax on purchase of latest cars after scrapping those with BS-II and in advance emission standards.



At present, a reduction of 25 in keeping with cent in Motor vehicle tax is supplied on purchase of a new car after scrapping antique private vehicles, whilst the rebate is capped at 15 in keeping with cent in case of industrial cars.


The Ministry of road shipping and Highways (MoRTH) in a draft notification issued on january 24 stated up to 50 according to cent cut price might be applicable for all cars, both industrial and private, that are BS-I compliant or had been manufactured before the BS norms were introduced.


in line with the draft notification, this discount would be applicable in case BS-II vehicles that fall under medium and heavy private and transport motors.


The BS-I carbon emission norm for automobiles have become mandatory in 2000, whilst the BS-II got here into impact from 2002.
