Poondi and Puzhal lake has been opened... Chembarambakkam will also be opened this afternoon... Flood warning!!!!

In chennai, Chembarambakkam and Puzhal lakes are filling up fast. Following this, water has been released from Poondi and Puzhal lakes. Excess water from Chembarambakkam will also be discharged today.

Since last evening it's been raining continuously. Roads in chennai are flooded due to heavy rains. Due to the northeast monsoon and the low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal, heavy rains are expected.

Except for chennai, the maximum rainfall in Trichy was 123 mm. The suburbs of chennai also received 70 mm of rainfall. Pudukkottai received 62 mm of rainfall.

Chembarambakkam: 

Due to the heavy rains in chennai, the water supply in Chembarambakkam Lake is increasing. The water level in chennai Chembarambakkam Lake as of this morning is 21.30 feet. Chembarambakkam Lake can hold up to 23 feet of water. The water supply to the lake is 600 cubic feet. Chembarambakkam is likely to fill up by this evening. Thus, the excess water is discharged from Chembarambakkam Lake at 1.30 pm today. At 1.30 pm 500 cubic feet of water is discharged. Extreme levels of flood danger were announced in Valathalamedu, Natham, Kundrathur, and Thirunirmalai. Chembarambakkam Lake Administrators and Disaster Prevention Force officials are inspecting hereabouts. Authorities are conducting intensive surveillance over there, as chief minister Stalin has ordered that the dam area be properly monitored.

The inflow of water has been steadily increasing. The water level of Puzhal Lake is 19.30 feet. The lake can hold up to 21 feet of water. Lake Puzhal is likely to fill up by tonight. The water level of Puzhal Lake has increased to 1487 cubic feet. Due to the increase in water supply, the lake is now open. 500 cubic feet of excess water is being discharged from the pit. Thus there is a risk of flooding. Extreme levels of flood danger were announced in the North, Puzhal, Vadaperumbakkam, and Manjupakkam areas. Similarly, 1000 cubic feet of water was discharged from Poondi Lake. Since then, the discharge from the Poondi Reservoir has risen to 2,894 cubic feet per second due to the increase in the water supply. Residents of low-lying areas and by the riverside have been warned to move to safer areas.
