Union Defense minister Rajnath Singh on thursday announced in a joint sitting of parliament the helicopter crash that killed 13 people, including Chief of Defense Staff General Bipin Rawat.


On thursday, Defense minister Rajnath Singh in parliament, with deep sorrow and a heavy heart, revealed the unfortunate news that a military helicopter had crashed on the afternoon of december 8, 2021.

General Bipin Rawat said he had to go to the Defense services Staff college in Willington to communicate at the army Training College. 


It was revealed that air traffic control at Sulur air Base was cut off from the helicopter around 12:08 pm.

Helicopter crash kills 13

He later clarified that some locals spotted the fire in the forest near Coonoor and went there, noticing the wreckage of a military helicopter. 

Rescue teams from the surrounding area arrived at the scene and rushed those trapped in the helicopter wreckage to a military hospital in Willington.


Defense minister Rajnath Singh has said that the latest reports confirm that 13 of the 14 people on board the unfortunate helicopter have died of their injuries.

Among the dead were Mrs madhulika Rawat, wife of CDS General Bipin Rawat, Mrs madhulika Rawat, wife of CDS General Bipin Rawat, his defence adviser Brig Lakhbinder Singh Lidder, Staff Officer Lt. Col. 


Their names are Wing commander Prithvi Singh Chauhan, Squadron leader Kuldeep Singh, junior Warrant Officer Rana Pratap Das, junior Warrant Officer Arakkal Pradeep, Havaldar Satpal Roy, nayak Gur Sevak Singh, nayak Jitendra Kumar, Lance nayak Vivek Kumar, Lance nayak B Sai Teja. Confirmed. 

Defense minister Rajnath Singh has said that all efforts are being made to rescue group captain varun Singh, who survived the IAF helicopter crash.

The investigation is being led by air Marshal Manvendra Singh. An investigation team arrived in Willington on wednesday and began an investigation.

Union Defense minister Rajnath Singh on behalf of both the Houses of parliament said that he was paying tributes to all those who died in the helicopter crash and conveyed his condolences to the families of the victims.

Defense minister Rajnath Singh announced that the bodies of the deceased would be brought to delhi on thursday evening. It was revealed that the funeral will be conducted with military formalities.
