MK Stalin, the chief minister of tamil Nadu, has written to prime minister Narendra Modi, pleading with him to reverse his decision to make the Common university Entrance Test (CUET) mandatory for all central universities. In a letter to the prime minister, Stalin, the chief minister of tamil Nadu, stated that beginning in the academic year 2022-2023, the National Testing Agency (NTA) will conduct admissions for various courses at all Central Universities funded by the university Grants Commission through the Common university Entrance Examination (NUT). The university Grants Commission has announced that it will only be performed through CUET) and based on the marks achieved by candidates in the Public university Entrance Examination (CUET) and state universities, according to the Chief Minister.

The tamil Nadu government views this as a central government initiative to not only implement the NEED examination for medical school admission, but also to introduce entrance examinations for higher education students. This has been proved by the central government's reactionary action. The chief minister wrote in his letter that this public university entrance examination, like the NEED exam, would lead to an underestimation of the overall development-oriented long-term learning system in schools, marginalising various school education systems across the country, and creating an environment where students would rely on training centres to improve their entrance examination scores.
