While tamil Nadu's electricity generation capacity is about 13,000 MW per day, the entire daily power demand is around 17,000 MW. According to Seeman, the Naam tamil Party's chief co-ordinator, "it is entirely incorrect that the small 800 MW power shortage is the source of the overall power outage." In this regard, he has made a statement claiming that people in tamil Nadu are suffering as a result of the daily unannounced multi-hour power outage. The DMK government's sluggishness in not adopting any preventative measures to improve power generation to meet the rising demand for electricity in the summer is the main cause of the present blackout.

Power outages are already common in most regions of tamil Nadu, supporting widespread assumption that if the DMK retakes power, there will be unannounced power outages and tamil Nadu will be thrown into darkness, just as there were during the previous DMK administration. It is excruciatingly uncomfortable for folks who have been in the grip of summer heat all day to suffer from severe insomnia as a result of an unannounced power outage that lasts several hours at night.

The tamil Nadu government should explain what actions it has made to get coal in the last six months.
