The AIADMK has pledged Rs 1 lakh in financial aid to the families of those slain in the Tanjore chariot accident. "We are saddened to learn that 11 people died when a chariot floated during a painting festival at the Upper temple in Kalimedu village, Tanjore district last night," AIADMK co-ordinator OPS and co-coordinator EPS said in a joint statement. "We have suffered a great deal of mental anguish, and another 15 people suffered burns and received intensive treatment in this tragic incident.

The horrific tragedy that befell the residents of Kalimedu village this year at an annual pleasant spiritual celebration defies description. We express our sincere condolences and compassion to the victims who have lost their family in this unfortunate occurrence on behalf of the All india Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. We pray to Almighty god to allow the souls of the deceased to rest in the presence of the Lord Almighty.

We also pray to Almighty god that those who were hurt and treated as a result of this catastrophe will recover fully and return home soon. We ask the tamil Nadu government to provide all essential humanitarian aid to the people of Kalimedu village, who have been harmed so severely. 1 lakh apiece to the families of the 11 people who died in the accident on behalf of the All india Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam; we would also like to notify you that 15 people who were injured in the accident and are getting treatment will be awarded Rs. 25,000 each.
