Boogie Nights is the gold standard of the pornographic film industry, but it exists in a universe that only Paul Thomas Anderson understands. Don Jon investigates the effects of internet pornography on males of a specific age. Pleasure, on the other hand, is about a young woman's experiences as a porn performer. In her feature film debut, writer-director Ninja Thyberg has created a totally female portrait that puts star Sofia Kappel in a position to succeed. Every performance is authentic, and in certain situations, adult film stars are portraying other personalities. Pleasure's most successful component, for better or worse, is that it has possibly the scariest moment of 2022 so yet.

When Bella Cherry (Kappel) relocates to Los Angeles to seek a career in pornographic films, she rapidly finds herself in over her head. She is cautioned on her first shot that other ladies in the industry are renowned for preying on newcomers like herself. As a result, Bella is first wary about moving into a house full of pornographers. She eventually makes a friend in her roommate Joy (Zelda Morrison), and she sees for herself how the men on set misled to her. Bella's newly formed friend group begins attending networking events together, and she gradually develops into a rising celebrity. After she gets over her first-time nerves, her second scene is both a success and a sexual revelation, leading her to become more ambitious in the types of scenes she is willing to do. Her third scenario, on the other hand, is a nightmare that makes her reconsider her entire life.

Pleasure is fantastic, to put it simply. The picture is completely focused on its protagonist, and Thyberg's vision is very apparent. There aren't plenty of wide images of Los Angeles in this film. Close-ups and handheld camera work dominate the film. While that filming method is widespread, what makes this achievement in Pleasure stand out is that it has a non-actor giving a standout performance that is heavily reliant on close-ups and emoting from the neck up. Anyone entering this job at the age of 19 would be in danger of losing oneself psychologically and emotionally. However, in every single scene in which Kappel appears in an adult video, the film does a fantastic job of informing the viewer that, even on the finest days, something terrible may always happen.

Pleasure is definitely one of the best films of the year, and it is hoped that it will not go unnoticed. In Hollywood, sex explorations are plenty, but Thyberg isn't interested in sex; she's interested in people who are interested in sex.
