Bus full of passengers fell into a gorge on Yamunotri National Highway; 24 killed, many injured, prime minister announced two lakh compensation




A bus carrying Chardham Yatris fell into a gorge near Damta on Yamunotri National Highway. The bus was carrying a pilgrim from madhya pradesh and 30 people including the driver. The accident took place on the Yamunotri National Highway between Damta and Bernigad. The accident took place near Damta, 70 km before Yamunotri Dham at around 7.15 pm on sunday evening.

So far the bodies of 24 pilgrims have been retrieved. Two injured were referred to Higher Center Max Hospital Dehradun. Other injured have been sent to Damta Primary health Center for first aid. The initial cause of the accident is said to be due to the driver falling asleep. It was told that this was the third trip of the accident bus without stopping.



Transport department also announced compensation

At the same time, uttarakhand Transport Department has announced a compensation of Rs 1 lakh each to the dead and Rs 40,000 to the seriously injured.



magisterial inquiry order

Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the accident. He expressed grief over the accident. Along with this, the officials have been instructed to provide proper treatment to the injured.


Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has reached the Disaster Control Room located at the secretariat to take stock of the accident. He is taking information about the accident and relief and rescue operations. Expressing grief over the accident, the chief minister has directed the district administration to carry out relief and rescue work expeditiously. The chief minister has also given instructions for proper treatment of the injured. It has been told that SDM, Tehsildar Badkot, SDRF, police and Ambulance have been deployed. Rescue work is in progress.




Amit Shah spoke to chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami

Union home minister amit shah has spoken to uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami regarding the bus carrying 28 pilgrims who fell into a gorge in Uttarkashi. He tweeted that the local administration and SDRF teams are engaged in the rescue work. The injured are being taken to the hospital for treatment. NDRF team will arrive soon.



Instructions to send NDRF also

The bus of pilgrims from Panna district of madhya pradesh left Haridwar at 10:00 am on Sunday. The injured are being rescued. SDRF team is on the spot. district Magistrate abhishek Ruhela directed to send doctors and ambulances to the spot.


Along with this, the CMO was instructed to keep adequate resources ready for the treatment of the injured in PHC Damta and CHC Naugaon. The district Magistrate also directed to dispatch NDRF and Disaster QRT and Revenue team. The district Magistrate has left for the incident site.



Vehicle number UK 04 PA 1541 is a train of Kumaon division, which was sent to Haridwar on behalf of Traffic Tourism and Development Co-operative Federation Limited Company. There were 28 people from madhya pradesh in the bus. This bus has been issued a green card by the ARTO rishikesh office from May 15 to november 15. Trip card was issued to this bus on Sunday. This vehicle was also checked at Damta check post at 6:40 pm.
