There was uproar in the state following media allegations that more than Rs 800 crore went "missing" from the bank accounts of more than 90,000 government employees in Andhra Pradesh. Without waiting, the telugu desam party sprang into action and claimed that the jagan Mohan reddy administration had taken the money and diverted it for other uses. It said that after being credited to the employees' General Provident Fund accounts, the money was "illegally taken."

The tdp persisted in criticising the jagan administration despite Special Chief Secretary (financial) S S Rawat's clarification that the DA arrears amount was "erroneously" credited into the GPF accounts of the employees "due to a technical malfunction." In spite of the fact that the bills weren't paid, according to a statement by Rawat, the DA arrears were credited. "According to Treasury regulations, the relevant treasury officer shall annul any debts that are unpaid as of march 31 of each year. The adjustment amounts that were incorrectly credited to the GPF accounts were also reversed by the system software as a result of the cancellation of outstanding DA arrear bills, he added.

The "illegal withdrawal" was described as illegal by the government employees' associations as well. A clarification was requested when the Special Chief Secretary met with representatives of the ap Joint Action Committee and the ap Joint Action Committee amaravati today. Sajjala ramakrishna Reddy, a senior member of the ysr congress party and the state government's advisor for public affairs, expressed regret that the tdp, led by N Chandrababu Naidu, was attempting to politicise even a minor error.
