"Of the four people in the Mercedes automobile, two (Mistry and Jehangir Pundole) were quickly pronounced dead, and two others (Darius and his wife Dr. Anahita Pundole), who were gravely injured, have been transported to Rainbow Hospital in Vapi," Patil told media members. According to eyewitness accounts, the driver of the vehicle was Dr. Anahita Pundole, a physician with the Breach Candy Hospital. According to Palghar police officers, Mistry and the Pundoles appeared to have been victims of "over-speeding" as the automobile struck a highway divider with full force on the River surya flowing alongside the national highway near Charoti, about 105 kilometres north of Mumbai.

The force of the collision was so severe that even though the car's airbags were deployed, they were unable to save the occupants, leaving the dark-grey Mercedes with severe damage with two fatalities and two injuries. The Pundole brothers (Jehangir and Darius), whose father Dinshaw passed away last week, appear to have suffered a double loss as a result of the tragedy; they had travelled to Udwada, a seaside town in south Gujarat, to carry out the post-funeral rites, though specifics are not yet known.
