The United Nations Human Rights Council has said that it is not possible to maintain the 2 lakh 47 thousand people in the Sri Lankan security forces. The Geneva Human Rights Council has requested the Sri Lankan government to reduce the number immediately. It also pointed out that the food cost of the army is 10 crore rupees when there is no facility to provide food to the people.

According to the information released by the ongoing 51st Geneva Convention on Human Rights, the expenditure of the military for the next year is 373 billion rupees. It is also pointed out that this is 14 per cent more than this year. Because of this, the security forces need to be reformed. The UN Human Rights Council has also recommended sri lanka reduce defense spending. Geneva has taken such a step amid recent criticism of the large troop presence and the money spent on them amid the escalating crisis in Sri Lanka.

It is also noteworthy that even after the end of the war, more and more soldiers are being engaged in the service. It is reported that sri lanka has more military personnel than countries like Australia, Britain, Canada, Britain, France, Japan, Malaysia, and the Netherlands.
