Mahatma Gandhi's Dandi Yatra

You must have read about the 400 km long Dandi yatra from Sabarmati Ashram to Dandi village. The story of mahatma Gandhi's stick is related to this journey. Normally gandhiji used to walk 10-12 km every day. But when gandhiji was preparing for his Dandi yatra, famous writer and freedom fighter Kaka Kalelkar came to meet him. Kaka Kalelkar was worried about this long walk of Gandhiji. For this reason, he advised gandhiji to carry a stick, which would give him some relief on the journey.

Kaka Kalelkar gave stick to Gandhiji

It is said that Kaka Kalelkar not only advised gandhi to carry a stick, but he also brought a stick for him. With this stick, gandhiji completed the Dandi Yatra. With the help of this stick, he crossed rivers, villages and forests. It is also known that his stick was made of a special kind of wood. The bamboo from which this wood was made is found only in the Malnad area on the sea coast of Karnataka.
