According to the New York Times report, amazon plans to lay off at least 10,000 employees, starting this week. The company has implemented this cost-cutting plan on thousands of employees after its profits decreased during the last several quarters.
Biggest layoff in company history
The New York Times report said that if about 10,000 employees are fired, it would be the biggest layoff campaign in Amazon's history till date. However, this figure is less than 1 per cent of the 16 lakh employees working for the company all over the world. Quoting sources in the report, it has been said that the devices group will be targeted in job cuts, including those responsible for the Alexa voice assistant. Apart from this, the company will also reduce employees from the retail division and human resources department.
Decisions are taken after several months of review
The Wall Street Journal report said that the cost-cutting decision has been taken after several months of review at Amazon. Employees of loss-making units have been asked to look for other opportunities within the company. Those who do not do so have been warned to look for jobs outside.
