Aaftab left the body in the same room over night, but the next day he went to the store to buy a knife and a refrigerator to chop the body and store it. The body was sawed into 35 pieces, held in the 300-liter refrigerator for 18 days, and then thrown in the Chhatarpur jungle, according to the investigation. The horrific murder scheme came to light over the past month after Shraddha's parents in Vasai, Maharashtra, approached the police. They had not spoken to her in a year because they disapproved of their daughter's interfaith relationship with Aaftab. After hearing from Shraddha's friends that she had not been in touch for months, they went to the police.
The Vasai police called Aaftab to find out where Shraddha was, but his responses caused them to have some questions, so they joined forces with the delhi Police. Aaftab informed the police that Shraddha had left their leased apartment in Mehrauli, delhi, after an argument on May 22, according to NDTV, when he was called in for interrogation on october 26. Notably, on May 18, just two weeks after they had relocated to delhi, he had already murdered Shraddha. He revealed to the detectives that Shraddha had just stolen her phone, leaving all of her other possessions behind. The police discovered that Rs 54,000 had been moved from Shraddha's account to Aaftab's between May 22 and May 26 via the banking app on the woman's phone after tracing her phone activity, call data, and signal positions.
Furthermore, the phone was in Mehrauli, where they had rented the flat. This raised suspicions because Aaftab had informed the detectives that he hadn't spoken to Shraddha since she left on May 22. He was detained again earlier this month after telling authorities that he made the bank transfers because he had her passwords. He had been paying Shraddha's credit card bills so that bank officials would not contact her at her mumbai home. During the investigation, the cops discovered that Aaftab had been using Shraddha's instagram account to make it appear that she was still alive. They learned through the talks that the place was Mehrauli once more. Officers from the Manikpur police station in Vasai then informed the delhi Police.
The cops then asked Aaftab how Shraddha's location was still Mehrauli when she left him on May 22. Aaftab then admitted to the crime and described the horrible conduct he had perpetrated. Shraddha's acquaintances informed the police that she wanted to leave Aaftab because he frequently beat her up for adultery and other offences. She, too, had made up her mind to leave the relationship multiple times, but the accused would emotionally blackmail her into staying, threatening to commit suicide if she did.
