15 injured in Andhra
While participating in Jallikattu on saturday in Andhra Pradesh's chittoor district, at least 15 persons sustained injuries. The event was held as a part of the makar sankranti holiday celebrations. Many passionate young men took part in the sport, which was lavishly feted.
What is Jallikattu?
A common sport during the pongal harvest season in mid-January is jallikattu. The winner is determined by how long the tamer stays on the bull's hump. The third day of pongal is dedicated to cattle, a crucial farming companion; the tamil term "mattu" signifies bull. One side of the argument over the sport asserts that it violates animal rights, while the other supports the protection of the "culture and customs" of the people.
