SHOCKING..! chennai is at high risk due to sea level rise..!?

The study revealed that cities including chennai and kolkata may be affected in a big way by the year 2100 due to excessive emission of non-green gases. Major cities in Asia, as well as islands in the western tropical Pacific and the western indian Ocean, could be affected by sea level rise, the new study suggests. Cities such as chennai, kolkata, Yangon, Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh City, and Manila could be severely affected by 2100 due to high greenhouse gas emissions. Studies have been done on natural changes in sea levels due to climate change. The results of major sea level studies around the world are published in the journal Nature Climate Change. Scientists have long claimed that rising ocean temperatures will cause sea levels to rise. Because water expands as it warms and more water forms in the oceans as ice caps melt. Studies have also indicated that sea level rise varies regionally. Because changes in ocean currents have been noted to push more water onto some coastlines, including the northeastern United States.Notably, the study suggests that internal climate variability may be caused by naturally occurring sea-level fluctuations or changes in the water cycle caused by events such as El Niño. The study found that internal climate variability could increase sea-level rise by 20-30 percent in some places, more than extreme flood events caused by climate change alone. For example, in Manila, coastal flooding events are predicted to be 18 times more frequent in 2100 than in 2006. It is also mentioned only in terms of climate change. But in the worst-case scenario, based on climate change and internal climate variability, 96 times more flood damage could occur, increasing sea level rise along the west coast of the US and Australia. Millions of people will be affected when such hazards occur, said Xiu Hu, a researcher at the National Center for Atmospheric Research and author of the paper.
