Director james Gunn says that Gamora was supposed to die in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and not in Avengers: Infinity War. In the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie, Zoe Saldana makes her acting debut as Thanos' favorite adopted daughter. With her fellow cosmic heroes, she will soon embark on what may be her last mission in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Saldana could have only performed as Gamora twice, though, had things gone differently. Gunn discloses his strategy for killing Mara in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 in a recent interview with ComicBook. Gunn said, "As a result, nothing is ever certain. But in "Vol. 2," Gamora came dangerously close to passing away. Despite being five years old in 2023, Avengers: Infinity war is still regarded as one of the MCU's most significant tales. It's tough to conceive how the movie would have turned out without the chemistry between Thanos and Gamora. Her involvement not only served as a major catalyst for the story's central conflict but also served to ground the Titan.
