Chennai police Department has introduced the 'Smart Ambulance' scheme to reach the hospital within the 'Golden Hour' time.

A new project called mSiren Smart Ambulance has been developed to tackle the 'Golden Hour' challenge in collaboration with major hospitals in Chennai. chennai Metropolitan police Traffic Additional Commissioner Kapil Kumar C Sarathkar today (June 28) launched mSiren Smart Ambulance project near EGA Signal, Poontamalli Road, Chettupu. Thus, necessary infrastructure facilities have been implemented to enable 'Green Corridor' for emergency ambulances facing the Golden Hour challenge.

How does mSiren Smart Ambulance service work? - mSiren is a collection of hardware and software products. It helps to save time during golden hour. mSiren creates a network of 'green corridors' powered by smart siren technology.

The mSiren platform works with a "Transmitter" and a "Receiver" of information. Ambulances are equipped with a “smart siren” device for their sirens. Whenever the ambulance siren is activated it emits a message through the transmitter. A device called mSiren Receiver at traffic junctions is fitted with LED boards at existing traffic junctions.

Whenever an emergency ambulance arrives within 200 meters of a traffic junction, the mSiren system at the junction is activated in real-time, displaying the incoming direction of the ambulance on the LED board, giving an alert on the loudspeaker and helping the on-duty traffic wardens and motorists to act accordingly.

This enables the motorists to give way to the ambulances immediately, thereby helping the ambulance to reach the particular hospital quickly and save lives at risk.

Thus, VMS boards and public announcement system are set up to thank the road users for giving way to the medical emergency vehicle after passing the signal.

At present 25 ambulances and 16 transport junctions are connected to this service in three private hospitals namely Kaveri, Raila and Global. It is proposed to expand this service to 40 junctions in Chennai.
It is noteworthy that this smart ambulance technology project has been introduced in the chennai Traffic police Department for the first time in the country.

There is no separate contact number to avail this smart ambulance service. This service can be availed using existing emergency helpline numbers.
