The metro rail project, which has been a long-standing demand of the people, will be completed soon. A total distance of 39 km in coimbatore, metro rail service is going to be started on Avinasi Road and Satti Road. coimbatore is one of the major cities in tamil Nadu after Chennai.

Being the main industrial city of South india, coimbatore has an increasing number of immigrants coming from different parts of the state and other states for various reasons including education, business, employment, medical etc. every year. coimbatore is served not only by national and state highways but also by local body roads.
The number of public use and private use vehicles in coimbatore is increasing every year. Most of the roads have not been widened except for a few roads to accommodate the increasing number of vehicles in Coimbatore. To avoid traffic congestion, flyovers are being constructed at places like Avinasi Road, Ukkadam - Athupalam Road, Mettupalayam Road etc. on behalf of tamil Nadu Government.

Although this was done on one hand, as in big cities including chennai, people were demanding that the metro rail transport project should be started in coimbatore so that people can travel without congestion and quickly.

Coimbatore has 6 main roads connecting the outer districts namely Avinasi Road, Trichy Road, palakkad Road, pollachi Road, Chatti Road, Mettupalayam Road. The tamil Nadu government decided to implement the metro rail project in order to reduce the traffic congestion and benefit the public.

Following this, the tamil Nadu government has announced in the current financial statement that the metro rail transport project will be launched in coimbatore at a cost of Rs.9 thousand crores. Following this, the implementation of the metro rail project in coimbatore has been accelerated.

Based on that, the project report preparation for the Metro rail Project has been started by the chennai Metro rail Administration and has now reached its final stage. A consultative meeting was held in coimbatore two days ago in which multidisciplinary experts including metro rail officials participated.

According to MA Siddique, Managing director of the Metro rail Company, "Metro train services were started on four routes namely Avinasi Road, Chatti Road, Trichy Road and Mettupalayam Road for smooth traffic in Coimbatore.

According to our studies, it has been decided to start the metro rail project on Avinasi Road, Satti Road in the first phase. The metro rail project will be implemented for a total distance of 39 km on Avinasi Road and Satti Road.

As the first route, the metro rail project will be implemented for a total distance of 23 km from Ukkadam bus Stand to Town Hall and Neelampur via Avinasi Road. A total of 18 railway stations are to be constructed on this route. In the second phase, the metro rail project will be implemented for a distance of 16 km from coimbatore railway station to Valliampalayam on Satthi road. A total of 14 railway stations are to be constructed on this route.

If the coimbatore Integrated bus Station is constructed along the coimbatore L and D Bypass, it is also planned to extend and run the metro train service on the first line up to it. Currently, the draft plan report for the metro rail project has been prepared.

This report will be submitted to the government on the 15th. The metro rail project is being implemented on the basis that the public should go to their destination quickly without getting stuck in any traffic jam. A metro train has 3 coaches for passengers. A coach can carry up to 250 people. A metro train will run for 5 to 7 minutes,” he said.

75 Acre Land Needed: According to the Metro rail Company officials, a total of 75 acres of land is required for the Metro rail project, including 35 acres of land to construct the route, 40 acres of land to construct the workshop and railway stations. Apart from government land and outlying areas, there are also privately owned lands in the metro rail project areas. 75 acres of land has to be acquired for this project.

Where and how much there are government, private, outlying places, how much land to be acquired from the private sector is also being studied. After the submission of the detailed draft plan report, the activities for land acquisition will be intensified,” he said.

Locations of Railway Station: Ukkadam bus Stand on Avinasi Road First Line - Neelampur Route Ukkadam bus Stand, Town Hall, coimbatore Railway Station, district Collector's Office, GKNM Hospital, lakshmi Mill Junction, Nava india Junction, Beelamedu Pudoor Junction, Funmal Junction , Hope college Junction, coimbatore government Medical college Junction, airport Junction, Chitra Junction, mgr Nagar, PLS Nagar, Venkitapuram, Park Plaza, Neelampur, airport are 18 stations.

The second route on Chatti Road starts from coimbatore Railway Station Junction and goes to Ramnagar, Gandhipuram bus Stand, Omni bus Stand, More Market, Ganapati Pudur, Athipalayam Junction, ramakrishna Mills, Vinayakapuram, Chitra Nagar, Saravanampatti, Vissapapuram, VGP Nagar, Valiampalayam. There are 14 railway stations. There are a total of 32 railway stations on both the routes. A junction is also to be constructed at the coimbatore railway station so that the two metro trains meet.

Rail Transport via Upper Line: Avinasi Road is a 6 lane under the Metro rail Project. The highway department is constructing a 10.10-kilometer high-level bridge from Uppilipalayam to Goldwins at a cost of Rs.1,600 crore to ease the traffic congestion on the highway.

Now this project has intensified. Pillars are erected in the middle of the road and a flyover is being constructed. Therefore, on the Ukkadam - Neelampur route, a metro rail lane is to be constructed on the left side of Avinasi Road.

The bridge will be built slightly higher than the existing high-level bridge to carry the metro. The pillars are to be erected approximately 13 meters to 20 meters in height. Railway stations will also be set up according to the same height. Metro trains run on underground tunnel routes in various cities including Chennai.

But in coimbatore, trains will be run only through the overhead line, i.e., the road will be erected on pillars and only on it. Similarly, a railway track will be constructed on Satthi Road by erecting pillars in the middle of the road.
