The work of digging a canal in the farmlands of Setiyathoppu area for the expansion of the NLC company resumed yesterday. The agricultural lands in the villages of Katthali, Kari Vetti, Adanur, Melvalayamadevi and Kilavalayamadevi near Setiyatoppu in Cuddalore district have been acquired for the 2nd mine expansion project of NLC. Compensation has been given for this.

On the last 26th, the work of cutting the canal with giant machines for the expansion of the mine in the area started. In this, the rice crops cultivated in those fields were damaged. There was opposition to this. Meanwhile, protesting against NLC's land acquisition, Bamakavins tried to hold a protest near neyveli Arch Gate yesterday to blockade the company.

Violence erupted in the protest led by party leader Anbumani Ramadoss. Stones were thrown at the police. The police dispersed the protestors with batons and tear gas shells. police arrested 500 people including Anbumani Ramadoss who participated in the protest. Later in the evening they were released.

28 people arrested: police have registered a case against 500 people including Anbumani Ramadoss for protesting without permission. Also, a case was registered against some under 10 sections including causing damage to public property and disturbing public peace.

28 people were arrested in this connection. 2 of them aged 17 were sent to Cuddalore Kur Nokku Home. 26 others were lodged in Cuddalore Central Jail. Due to this protest, the ongoing NLC mine expansion work in Setiyatopu area's farmlands was temporarily stopped the day before yesterday.

However, this work continued for the 3rd day yesterday. More than 30 giant Bokline machines are busy cutting the canal. police have been deployed in the area.
