The supreme court of the country has taken a decision to look into the cases of assaults on women in the riot-ridden northeastern state of Manipur. Will the center intervene in the past? Should we decide for ourselves? The supreme court, which asked, finally took its own decision and appointed a committee consisting of three retired women judges. It is noteworthy that one of them is a former Chief Justice.
The supreme court has stated that the responsibilities of this committee include the investigation of cases of atrocities committed against women in Manipur as well as the assistance and rehabilitation of the victims. It is noteworthy that the bench comprising Chief Justice Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice jb Pardiwala and Justice manoj mishra commented that this committee is being formed to restore credibility on the rule of law. According to the orders of the supreme court, this three-member committee of women judges will tour all over Manipur. Along with the cases that have come to light, the supreme court will focus on a few hundred cases that have not come to light.
The supreme court has said that they have been given full supreme magisterial powers. With this, they got an opportunity to inquire from the state DGP level officials to the lower level, from MLAs, MPs to other public representatives. With this, they will investigate the incidents within five weeks and submit a report to the supreme court and stand by the affected families.
