After a deadly shooting spree that shocked the whole nation for around 48 hours, the suspect in the mass murder of 18 people and injury of 13 in Lewiston, Maine, was discovered dead on Friday. An unidentified law enforcement source reportedly told US news outlet ABC news that suspect Rober Card was discovered dead after a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The Associated press reports that a message written to the suspect's kid was discovered at a residence connected to him. Although the official stated that it was a suicide note, no particular reason for the shooting was given.

Card, a US army reservist, opened fire inside a bowling alley on wednesday night before going to a neighboring club and shooting eighteen people to death. The ages of the deceased varied from 14 to 76. Among the fatalities were reportedly a shipbuilder, a teenage bowler, and a sign-language translator.

Following the shooting, a significant search and rescue effort was launched, and the city was placed under lockdown, which was eventually removed on Friday. President Joe Biden has directed that all US flags be flown at half-staff until dusk on monday in remembrance of the unfortunate tragedy. According to statistics compiled together by the Associated press, USA Today, and Northwestern University, the most recent mass killing that occurred in the second-largest city in Maine is the 36th such occurrence that occurred in the united states this year.
