Due to the significant rainfall today, the madurai District collector issued a holiday for schools in the district. As the Northeast Monsoon intensifies in tamil Nadu, the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) indicated that extensive rainfall is likely in most of the districts. The met department reports that cyclonic circulation could bring heavy rain to 14 districts in tamil Nadu during the course of the next 24 hours. For multiple districts, the indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a "orange alert."
It is expected to rain heavily to extremely heavily in five districts: Kanniyakumari, Nellai, Theni, Nilgiris, and Tenkasi. Fourteen districts—Coimbatore, Tirupur, Dindigul, madurai, Virudhunagar, Thoothukudi, Ramanathapuram, Sivagangai, Pudukottai, Tanjore, Tiruvarur, Nagai, Mayiladuthurai, and Erode—are expected to see significant rainfall.
The government of tamil Nadu already declared that november 4 will be a school holiday in Chennai, madurai, and a number of other districts. For tamil Nadu, Kerala, Puducherry, and Karaikal, as well as for coastal and south interior Karnataka, Rayalaseema, and coastal Andhra Pradesh, the india Meteorological Department has issued an isolated heavy rainfall alert. The northeast monsoon, often called the winter monsoon, is responsible for the heavy rainfall experienced in southern India. The Southwest monsoon's opposite, the Northeast monsoon, typically lasts from october to December.
