On Wednesday, november 8, Vice President Kamala harris held a diwali celebration at the White House. Together, a number of well-known members of the South Asian and indian communities enthusiastically celebrated the festival of Lights. It was a lavish party complete with traditional music, lavish ethnic food, and vibrant decorations. Pictures received by Hindustantimes.com from celebrity publicist Jonathan Hay show a vibrant rangoli decked with lights or diyas just outside Harris's office.

In her introductory remarks, harris emphasized the significance of diwali celebrations and elucidated its profound meaning—the triumph of light over darkness—in light of the current global crises. The vice president stated, "This year, we celebrate diwali at a time when there's a lot happening in our world." In addition to harris, a few other distinguished visitors gave speeches on the occasion. Prominent attendees included Miss USA Nina Davaluri, US Representative raja Krishnamoorthi pooja Bavishi, CCO of Netflix Bela Bajaria, and President of the World bank Ajay Banga.

Traditional indian food, such as delicious Malai ice cream, bhel, prawns, and samosas, was served at the event along with cocktails and beverages, such as chai or tea, which is the most popular hot beverage in India. Throughout the evening, lively music and dance acts maintained a joyous atmosphere. The white house diwali reception featured a Tabla performance in addition to a DJ. Among the other distinguished attendees on this important occasion were American actress and writer Sheetal Sheth, anchor of ABC news Zohreen Shah, and businessman Anip patel, who spoke with the Vice President on the Gaza crisis.

In his speech, patel stated: "It is a poignant time to reflect upon the values it represents as we gather here to celebrate the festival of Lights, diwali, which symbolises the triumph of good over evil." The quest of harmony, peace, and understanding among all people, despite differences, is one of the main lessons of Diwali. "My sincere appeal to you, Vice President harris, is to use your powerful position to push for a ceasefire and end all forms of violence and attacks on people, irrespective of their backgrounds or beliefs," he continued.
