The BBC has apologized for a false claim about Israeli troops "targeting medical staff" and "Arab speakers" during their raid at Gaza's Al Shifa Hospital. A top BBC announcer misconstrued a Reuters story, claiming that the IDF was "targeting people including medical teams as well as Arab speakers." Jewish leaders slammed the broadcaster's gaffe, noting the BBC's "staggering lack of care." Following the outcry, the BBC apologized, saying, "What we should have said is that IDF forces included medical staff and Arabic speakers for this operation."

The channel apologized in a statement posted by the BBC news Press Team on X. "When BBC news first reported that Israeli forces had entered Gaza's main hospital, we stated that medical teams and Arab speakers were being targeted." "This was incorrect and misquoted a Reuters report," according to the statement. "We apologize for this error, which fell below our usual editorial standards," it said. The right account of events was broadcast minutes later, and we apologised on air later that morning for the error."

Israel's satirical tv show mocks BBC

The video of the fake story was widely circulated on social media, eliciting widespread condemnation and fury. Following the event, an Israeli comedy show criticized the broadcaster in a sketch, which chris Rose tweeted on X, formerly Twitter. So far, the video clip has received over 1.4 million views. According to Haaretz, the three-and-a-half-minute spoof, which aired over the weekend, presented the broadcaster as purposefully misinterpreting facts in order to portray the terror outfit in a favorable light.

During the spoof, the BBC presenter of the Israeli tv show Eretz Nehederet remarked, "39 days after Hamas freedom fighters peacefully attacked Israel, we now have an exclusive interview with its leader Yahya Sinwar." Sinwar, on the other hand, joked, "There were also freedom rapists and freedom butchers." "Of course," the presenter said. Please accept my apologies. Mr. Sinwar, I hear you are now negotiating a cease-fire." "The situation in Gaza is terrible, Rachel," Sinwar responded. Because all of the innocent citizens have fled town, we are left without protection."
