National Epilepsy Day: All you need to know...?

Every year on november 17, india celebrates National Epilepsy Day to dispel misconceptions about the condition and increase public awareness of this brain ailment.

Epilepsy seizures can occur suddenly and are quite upsetting for the person having them because they cause them to lose control over their movements, sounds, and feelings. With epilepsy, aberrant brain activity or transient alterations in the electrical functioning of the brain can result in seizures. The brain continuously produces tiny electrical impulses that move along the network of nerve cells in the brain in an ordered sequence, according to the American Association of Neurological Surgeons. These electrical rhythms become unbalanced in people with epilepsy and synchronized, rapid bursts of electrical energy interrupt the usual electrical pattern, sometimes impairing movement, consciousness, or sensations.

The symptoms of epilepsy might differ depending on the type of epilepsy. According to the Mayo Clinic, during a seizure, some people may pass out and others may only stare blankly for a short while. Certain forms of epilepsy can also cause a person to twitch their arms or legs, a condition known as a convulsion. A plethora of well-known individuals, including Sir Isaac Newton, Charles Dickens, Elton John, Neil Young, Martin Kemp, and richard Burton, have struggled with epilepsy.
