According to the interior ministry, Israeli parents have begun naming their newborn children after localities assaulted by Hamas terrorists on october 7, as a memorial to the deaths. According to the government, at least 45 newborns born since october 7 have been called Beeri, after the kibbutz community near the Gaza Strip that witnessed some of the greatest crimes in the cross-border raids.

The name Oz, which means "strength" in Hebrew, was given to 49 boys and one girl after Nir Oz and Nahal Oz, two other settlements targeted in the bombings, according to the government. Eight other babies were called Nir, and three females were named Nova, after a Hamas-targeted desert party. According to Israeli police, 240 persons were kidnapped during the extraordinary strikes that killed around 1,200 people, the majority of whom were civilians.

Israel replied with a bombing campaign and ground invasion in Gaza, killing roughly 15,000 people, including thousands of children, according to the territory's Hamas leadership. At least 45 newborns born since october 7 have been called Beeri, after the hamlet near the Gaza Strip that witnessed some of the most heinous atrocities during the cross-border raids.
