Vice President Kamala harris and her husband, Doug Emhoff, provided a look inside their Thanksgiving celebrations on social media, causing outrage among conservatives. What is the debate's focal point? The sight of a gas cooker in the photo's backdrop fueled speculation about the putative Biden administration's plans to outlaw such appliances.

"From our family to yours, happy Thanksgiving," harris captioned the photo of her and Emhoff cooking their holiday feast on Twitter. The gas cooker, which was visible in the kitchen, drew swift criticism from critics such as georgia Republican Congressman Mike Collins and America First campaigner Laura Loomer.

The internet buzz was joined by comments reflecting the feeling that "rules for thee but not for me," as conservatives pounced on the administration's alleged hypocrisy in seeking to outlaw gas stoves while using one themselves. Rumors circulated earlier this year that the Biden administration was mulling a ban on gas stoves, prompting a response from right-wing groups and fueling anxieties about the government intruding into Americans' daily lives in the service of climate change plans.

According to an interview with Biden-appointed U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) commissioner richard Trumka Jr., "a ban on gas stoves is on the table" owing to health concerns. However, both Trumka Jr. and the CPSC head, Alexander Hoehn-Saric, eventually stressed that no definite measures to prohibit gas stoves were in the works.

"Research indicates that emissions from gas stoves can be hazardous, and the CPSC is looking for ways to reduce related indoor air quality hazards," Hoehn-Saric went on to say. "To be clear," Trumka Jr. said, "the CPSC isn't coming for anyone's gas stoves."

Despite these clarifications, right critics have continued to exploit the gas cooker ban rumors against the Biden administration, presenting it as a diabolical conspiracy to impose control over the lives of ordinary Americans.
