International Mountain Day : All you need to know!!!

The United Nations General assembly has declared every year to be international Mountain Day. Since 2003, it has been celebrated annually to raise awareness of the value of mountains in our lives, draw attention to the opportunities and challenges associated with mountain development, and forge partnerships that will result in improvements for both the global population and the mountain ecosystem. Our natural treasures are the mountains. Additionally, they support around half of the world's biodiversity hotspots, are home to 15% of the world's population, and supply half of humanity with clean energy and medicines in addition to fresh water needed for daily survival.

December 11 is international Mountain Day. That falls on a monday this year. 2023 has "Restoring Mountain Ecosystems" as its subject. It seeks to raise consciousness regarding the importance of alpine ecosystems.

Mountains are home to about half of the world's biodiversity hotspots and make up around 27% of the planet's land surface. Additionally, they supply freshwater to around half of humanity. They are also home to numerous culturally varied people with a wide variety of languages and customs, as well as an astounding array of flora and fauna. However, the effects of climate change are felt in the highlands. As a result, international Mountain Day is crucial in reminding global communities to take action to protect their biodiversity.
