Paddy floating in flood:
On december 17 and 18, due to the atmospheric circulation in the Kumarikadal area, heavy rain fell in 4 districts namely tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, Thoothukudi, and Tenkasi. Due to more than 24 hours of rain, all the water levels overflowed and flowed the other way. Due to the precautionary release of water from 5 dams, the flood in Thamiraparani River overflowed its banks. Nellai and Tuticorin districts have been severely affected due to heavy rains. Rescue operations also became a huge problem as they were surrounded by water everywhere. Many villages were cut off. bus transport is not functioning on a large scale. It was directed to the outlying areas through areas where there was no water. Meanwhile, as the rain stopped yesterday, rescue operations are being carried out intensively.
Rail service affected:
Meanwhile, due to heavy rain in the southern districts, express trains going to Nellai, Thoothukudi, Kanyakumari, Tenkasi, and Tiruchendur were stopped midway on december 17. Especially, no train could go beyond Kovilpatti railway station. Commuters suffered as the train stopped midway and bus traffic was affected due to rain and flood.
All the railway stations looked like pools of water. Meanwhile, there was soil erosion on the tracks near Gangaikondan near Nellai and Dadan Kulam near Tiruchendur. Due to this, the trains could not be operated from the respective places. Therefore, all trains were partially canceled and operated at Madurai, Kovilpatti, and Virudhunagar railway stations.
