Medicines worth Rs 1000 crore have been sold this year under the Prime Minister's Bharatiya Jana Aushadhi scheme. The government plans to increase the number of people in drug centers to 25,000. Union Finance minister nirmala sitharaman will present the Union Budget 2024 for the sixth time on february 1, 2024. nirmala sitharaman is all set to present the last budget of the Modi government's second regime as lok sabha elections are to be held across the country after that. In such a situation, due to the lok sabha elections, although it may not be a full-fledged budget, the government may make important announcements regarding the fulfillment of the basic needs of the common man. The government may issue a special notification regarding the Prime Minister's Bharatiya Janashati Paryojana (PMBJP) scheme. The government's goal is to open 25,000 people's dispensaries called Bharatiya Jana Aushadhi Centers across the country. Besides, the government may also announce up to 75 percent discount on medicines available at Jan Aushadi Kendra, reports said.
Govt's target regarding opening of Jan Aushadhi Centre:

At present, there are more than 785 districts of the country known as Jan Aushadhi Centers called People's Pharmacies. people have saved about 5000 crore rupees by buying medicines from here. People's Pharmacy has grown 100 times in the last 9 years. In 2014, there were only 80 community pharmacy centers. They have now increased to 10,000. The government plans to increase the number of people in drug centers to 25,000. The government wants to complete this target by march 2026.
Under the Pradhan Mantri Bharatiya Janashati Yojana, 1963 types of medicines and 293 surgical instruments have been included. These include cardiovascular, cancer, diabetes, anti-allergy, gastro medicines, and pediatric medicines. Currently, it has five warehouses located in Gurugram, Bengaluru, Chennai, guwahati and Surat. Through these, medicines are also provided to the rural areas of the country. Medicines are available here at very low prices. Currently, people's pharmacy Jan Aushathi Kendra offers up to 50 percent discount on medicines. The Modi government can increase this discount to 75 percent.
