During Pongal, the tamil cinema industry saw a fight between Dhanush's Captain Miller and Sivakarthikeyan's Ayalaan. Both films established records for greatest expenditures and pre-release sales for their respective stars. The competition for tier-2 supremacy between dhanush and Sivakarthikeyan became heated, making it interesting to watch who would emerge victorious.

In tamil Nadu, Captain Miller grossed nearly Rs 6 crore on its first day, whereas Ayalaan made roughly Rs 3.25 crore. Unfortunately, both films failed to fulfill expectations, with public reviews being less than positive. Captain Miller, despite Dhanush's outstanding performance and a strong ensemble, falls short owing to a basic narrative that only catches up in the latter half. The film's directing and editing are sluggish, and the general lack of fun reduces its appeal, making it a bore fest.

Ayalaan, despite its great message, fails to create a strong effect, seeming too generic. The VFX work and alien sights are impressive, but the grandiose stunt sequences get tedious. Despite the film's technical prowess, director R Ravikumar's meticulous narration makes it appear antiquated. The picture may be well received by the family audience, but it may not appeal to the testosterone-filled youngsters.
