The expansion works at rajiv gandhi International airport (RGIA) are nearing completion, with 98.7 percent progress made as of december 31, 2023, according to GMR Airports Infrastructure Limited's Q3FY24 report, to increase capacity from 12 million to 34 million passengers. As of january 25, 2024, progress has increased to 99.4 percent. According to the study, RGIA's current expansion is expected to be completed by march 2024.

The Q3FY24 report (October to december 2023) emphasized the airport's strong performance in passenger traffic. Passenger traffic increased by 17 percent year on year to 6.3 million, up from 5.4 million in Q3FY23. During Q3FY24, domestic traffic increased by 16% and overseas traffic increased by 22%, driving the growth.

On a larger scale, the airport served 18.6 million passengers in the first nine months of FY24, representing a stunning 21% year-on-year increase. In terms of financials, RGIA reported a total income of Rs 496 crore in Q3FY24, up 35% YoY from Rs 368 crore in Q3FY23. Total income increased by 48% over nine months to Rs 1,472 crore in 9MFY24.

Notably, RGIA has greatly increased its connection, now linking 66 domestic locations (compared to 55 pre-covid) and 19 foreign destinations (compared to 16 pre-covid).

The study also looked at non-aero revenues, which rose by 29% year on year to Rs 4.2 billion. Retail revenues increased by 32% to Rs 1.3 billion, with Duty-Free Sales Per Passenger (SPP) at Rs 665 in 9MFY24, compared to Rs 606 in 9MFY23.

Food and Beverage (F&B) revenues climbed by 30% to Rs 685 million, while car-ark revenues increased by 19% YoY to Rs 807 million, and advertisement revenues increased by 58.6% YoY to Rs 482 million. Site occupancy also increased, reaching 51% in 9MFY24 vs 48% in 9MFY23.
