On Saturday, march 16, two fruit vendors at Moazzam Jahi Market were taken into custody by the municipal police for storing and offering for sale artificially ripened mangoes. police searched two stores, New Liberty fruit Shop and Lucky fruit Shop, across from Clock Tower, after receiving a tip. They found contaminated mangoes valued at Rs 3 lakh.
 

Irfan Khan, 35, and Mohd Hussain, 47, have been named as the people that were detained. Eighteen trays of mangoes and FYK sachets were taken from Lucky fruit Shop, while five packets of FYK Ethylene ripener and eight trays of mangoes from New Liberty fruit Shop were confiscated.

Police said that because of high demand, the two fruit merchants who were detained were providing artificially ripened mangoes. "They have violated the FSSAI regulations, endangering human life." These mangoes can lead to skin and respiratory problems, according to the police.
 

At the sultan Bazar police station, a case has been filed under Sections 420 (cheating), 272 (adulterating any article of food or drink), 273 (selling of noxious food or drink), and 336 (endangering life or personal safety for others) of the indian Penal Code. Further investigations are underway.
