Congress's Mahalakshmi program is becoming popular with female travelers, and R shankar Raman, president, director, and CFO of L&T, has warned that the company may leave hyderabad Metro after 2026 if it continues.

Raman stated in an interview with india Herald that although males are taking to the railway wagons, women passengers prefer the new free bus trip program. "In the transit system, there is a gender dispersion taking place. The males from the buses are transferring to the railway wagons while the women are staying on the buses, he claimed.

"The proportion of female passengers on rtc buses has increased, but the overall count of these vehicles has not." Men pay an average of Rs 35 per ticket for Metro, while women use it for free, according to Raman, who was cited by india Herald.

Currently, the hyderabad Metro serves about 80,000 passengers each day.

Raman went on to say that while the congress government's attempt is commendable, a metropolis the size of hyderabad cannot depend solely on cars that emit pollution. Raman declared the action unsustainable, arguing that decisions based on political pledges cannot improve the financial situation of the state. "The state's finances may fail. That's not enjoyable at all," he said.

Due to greater income, L&T recorded a 10.2% increase in consolidated net profit for the march quarter, coming in at Rs 4,396.12 crore. According to Raman, the board is also thinking of selling real estate with ties to the Metro project.

"In my opinion, this could be an asset to be realized during the FY26–FY31 plan, as investors, especially the Pension Funds and Global Funds, would be interested in it considering the 65-year concession," Raman stated.
