The district administration's most recent update on the Kallakurichi hooch catastrophe in tamil Nadu puts the dead toll at 57. 156 patients are now undergoing care at various government hospitals. The hospital at Kallakurichi government Medical college is treating 110 patients in total. According to the district administration, there are four patients at the Villupuram government hospital, twenty receiving treatment in salem, and twelve admitted to Puducherry.
 
32 people have passed away at the government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical college and Hospital in salem and 18 at the government Kallakurichi Medical college and Hospital thus far. Three people have passed away at Puducherry's Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical education and Research (Jipmer) and four at the government Villupuram Medical college and Hospital.
 
While expressing grief over the victims' deaths, tamil Nadu chief minister MK stalin said that the state government will cover the costs of schooling and hosteling for children who lost one or both parents in the Kallakurichi hooch catastrophe.
 
Speaking during the assembly session, stalin announced that the state government will give children who had lost both of their parents ₹5000 per month help till they turn 18 and that ₹5 lakh would be put immediately as a fixed deposit in the names of those youngsters.
 
Under SP Shantharam, the tamil Nadu police's CB-CID launched an investigation in the meanwhile. Seven persons are under arrest in connection with the Kallakurichi hooch catastrophe, according to the Kallakurichi Collector.
 
In order to provide the families the ex-gratia money, the remains of the deceased who were buried without a postmortem were unearthed on sunday in order to ascertain the cause of death. After drinking alcohol illegally, 216 individuals were admitted to various hospitals; most of them are still undergoing treatment.
