Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Badal summoned a conference in chandigarh, but several top leaders ignored it and conducted a separate meeting in jalandhar instead, raising the possibility of a mutiny. Following their meeting in jalandhar, the dissident leaders told a news conference that the SAD's disastrous performance in the lok sabha elections called for a change inside the party.

Prem Singh Chandumajra, Sikander Singh Maluka, Bibi Jagir Kaur, Parminder Singh Dhindsa, and Sarwan Singh Phillaur were among those present at the conference. A 'SAD bachao' movement was also slated to be started the following month.

"The question of why Akali Dal has grown so feeble was seriously examined... We have descended to the earth from the heavens. "The party needs to change," declared prem Singh Chandumajra.

Bibi Jagir Kaur, a different breakaway leader, charged that sukhbir singh badal never paid attention to party officials.

"Everyone who supports SAD is concerned about how to get out of the current predicament. sukhbir singh badal, the leader of the party, has ignored our attempts to communicate with him. He makes no effort to make up for his mistakes," Kaur was cited by ANI as adding.

"We're concerned about the reason punjabi people don't embrace us... On July 1st, we're going to the Akal Takht Sahib to seek pardon for the losses that resulted from our silence," she said.

In contrast, Sukhbir Badal convened a conference in chandigarh with the district presidents and other top brass to assess the party's showing in the lok sabha elections.

In the elections, the SAD was able to secure only one of Punjab's thirteen lok sabha seats. The party's percentage of the vote fell from 27.45 percent in 2019 to 13.42 percent.

The Akali Dal said that the "frustrated elements sponsored by the BJP" were attempting to "weaken" the party during the meeting of rebel leaders in Jalandhar.

Daljit Singh Cheema, the head of Akali Dal, stated that the rebel leaders ought to have held off on convening a separate meeting until after the working committee meeting on june 26.

"There are differences of opinion all the time in a democracy... A disagreement between one or two people is not a revolution, according to Cheema.

"June 26 is the working committee meeting date. It gets dubious if you voice your views prior to the meeting. It appears to have been planned. It appears that you merely uttered something out of want rather than with any thought to the betterment or advancement of the party. There was a waiting period else. They ought to have taken part and paid attention to what other people had to say. They might have then expressed their position, Cheema was reported by ANI as stating.
