In a rare race, om birla, a three-time bjp MP, defeated K Suresh, the nominee of the india group, by voice voting to win the position of Speaker of the lok sabha for a second time on Tuesday. om birla sat in the Speaker's chair, grinning broadly. Along with prime minister Narendra Modi, Parliamentary Affairs minister Kiren Rijiju, and leader of the Opposition rahul gandhi joined forces to accompany om birla to the chair during this occasion.
 

PM Modi and rahul gandhi clasped hands and grinned before rahul gandhi escorted the new Speaker to his seat. om birla was congratulated by PM Modi on winning a second term as Speaker. He also praised Birla's "sweet smile" in his remark.

In the name of the house, let me congratulate you. Sitting on this position for the second time at the Amrit Kaal is a great responsibility. We hope that you will mentor us over the next five years with your experience. The whole house will be cheered by your charming grin," the prime minister said. Additionally, rahul gandhi "congratulated" om birla on "behalf of the entire india alliance" and for being the "final arbiter of that voice" while wearing an all-white outfit.
 

"I would like to congratulate you for your successful election that you have been elected for the second time. I would like to congratulate you on behalf of the entire Opposition and the india alliance. This house represents the voice of India's people, and you are the final arbiter of that voice. The government has political power, but the Opposition also represents the voice of India's people and this time, the opposition represents significantly more voice of the indian people than it did last time," the leader of Opposition said.
