At the first presidential debate on friday in Atlanta, US President Joe Biden, 81, and US President donald trump, 78, traded jabs on issues like inflation, immigration, abortion rights, and foreign policy. This is the first time in American history that a current president is debating a past president, making the discussion historic.
 
The first topic of discussion was inflation. Biden claimed that trump had left him with a broken economy and that he had reduced the price of prescription medications and generated employment. trump said that the Biden administration's job expansion had primarily been "for illegal immigrants."

In addition, donald trump brought up the US withdrawal from afghanistan in the first year of Joe Biden's term, branding the Democrat the worst US president ever. "The most embarrassing day in the history of our country's life," as trump put it.
 
The 81-year-old President seemed to have vocal difficulties many times during the debate. Biden was often observed coughing and cleaning his throat.
 
• The US economy and inflation were the first topics of discussion. According to Joe Biden, trump rewarded the affluent throughout his administration, leaving him with a collapsing economy. "The economy collapsed, there were no jobs, unemployment rate rose to 15%, it was terrible," Biden stated.

• In retaliation, donald trump asserted that the Biden administration's job expansion was limited to "illegal immigrants." Additionally, trump declared that tax cuts had "spurred the greatest economy that we've ever seen" and that "inflation is killing us".
 
• In addition, donald trump brought up the United States' withdrawal from afghanistan in the first year of Joe Biden's administration, referring to it as "the most embarrassing day in our country's life."

• Regarding abortion, trump stated that he would not attempt to impede access to abortion drugs and that he is in favour of abortion restrictions being lifted in cases of rape, incest, and motherhood. Conversely, Biden declared that he would uphold Roe v. Wade and chastised trump for nominating judges to the supreme court who overturned the country's fundamental right to an abortion.
 
• Regarding immigration, donald trump attributed the increase in crime to Joe Biden's "open border" policy. He charged that Biden is in charge of a surge of "migrant crime" that puts US Americans in jeopardy. "Right now, there are more terrorists entering our nation than ever before. "Everywhere you look, they're from the Middle East," declared Trump.

• In retaliation, Biden criticised Trump's policies regarding immigration throughout his administration. "He was removing kids from their moms and confining them in cages while he was president. That's not the best course of action, Biden declared.
