Major telecom provider Bharti airtel (NS:BRTI) said on friday that its mobile charges would sharply increase starting on July 3.The corporation increased the cellphone pricing for the unlimited voice plans from Rs 179 to Rs 199, from Rs 455 to Rs 599, and from Rs 1,799 to Rs 1,999.
 
Effective July 3, the post-paid plans that were previously priced at Rs 399 tariff plan will now cost Rs 449; the Rs 499 plan will now cost Rs 549; the Rs 599 plan will now cost Rs 699; and the Rs 999 plan will now cost Rs 1199. According to a statement from airtel, the company has maintained that for indian telcos to have a financially viable business model, the average revenue per user (ARPU) for mobile has to be greater than Rs 300.


"We think that this ARPU level will allow for the significant investments needed in spectrum and network technology and provide a moderate return on capital," Bharti airtel stated. In early morning trading, Bharti Airtel's shares increased by almost 1% to Rs 1,491 a share. reliance Jio had already disclosed a 12-27 per cent increase in cellphone rates.
