Telangana state politics is undergoing rapid changes. Kalvakunta Chandrasekhara Rao (KCR), the key figure behind the formation of Telangana, is experiencing trust and betrayal from his party leaders. Many MLAs who won their seats with the Rose party (BRS) ticket are now defecting. The TRS, which secured 39 seats in the previous assembly elections, has lost power. This defeat, compounded by failing to win a single seat in the subsequent parliamentary elections, has significantly damaged the party’s standing.

This situation has shaken the confidence of leaders within the BRS, leading many to contemplate leaving the party. So far, six MLAs have already left. However, such turmoil is common for any party that loses power, and kcr need not worry excessively. Leaders tend to be fickle, often switching allegiances based on power dynamics.

KCR should place his trust in leaders who remain loyal during tough times and distance himself from opportunistic ones. He particularly needs to be cautious with leaders who have affiliations with the TDP. Those MLAs who have defected should be held accountable for their promises under the congress government. kcr might also consider adopting strategies from his mentor, Chandrababu Naidu. After the tdp suffered a severe defeat to ycp in the 2019 elections, with only 23 seats remaining, many key tdp leaders defected to ycp, and Chandrababu himself faced imprisonment. Despite these challenges, dedicated party activists preserved the tdp, and Chandrababu ultimately won 174 seats and became chief minister again.

KCR can learn from this resilience. The Rose party still has a solid voter base that needs to be preserved and expanded. kcr remains popular among the people of Telangana, and the current opposition under revanth Reddy’s rule presents an opportunity. By staying visible and engaging with the public, kcr can strategize to regain power.
