On Saturday, june 29, india skipper rohit sharma declared his intention to retire from the game's shortest format, just minutes after captain virat kohli hung up his boots from Twenty20 international cricket. After india defeated south africa in a dramatic final to win the t20 world cup in barbados, the two cricket players declared the end of their T20I career. After winning the Player of the Match award at the Kensington Oval, Rohit officially announced his retirement to the media, but kohli made the same announcement.

"That was also the last game I played. To be honest, ever since I started playing this format, I have liked it. There has never been a finer moment to bid this format farewell. I've enjoyed every second of it. My career in india began with me playing this format. I intended to accomplish this. Even when the barbados media pleaded with him to continue playing the format, Rohit said, "Win the Cup and say goodbye."

Rohit Sharma, who has just withdrawn from t20 internationals, has clarified that he will'very much' continue to play ODIs and Tests. After winning the world cup together for india for the first time, virat kohli and rohit sharma concluded their careers on a high note.
