Following violent threats from Goshamahal bharatiya janata party (BJP) mla raja Singh, stand-up comedian Daniel Fernandes canceled his event in hyderabad as part of his comedy special tour, "Do you know who I am?" The show was due to take place at 4 pm on june 29.

The comedian sparked controversy on june 17 when he was accused of making light of a recent strange occurrence in delhi when some Jain community members disguised up as Muslims and paid Rs 15 million for goats to "save" them from being killed on Bakrid.

Fernandes wrote on instagram, "We have to reschedule tonight's show in hyderabad because of the unrest caused by my last video."

"I removed the video and apologized on my blog today. But threats of violence and damage continue to come in the form of calls, emails, and messages," he stated. Fernandes had before apologized on instagram to the Jain community for his remarks, saying he didn't want to offend anybody with his work.

"If not, our Karyakartas (BJP members) will throw chappals at you and you will have to think 50 times before visiting telangana," raja Singh had said, demanding the cancellation of the comedian's concert.

"I would also ask the commissioner of police to postpone his show." The bjp mla said, "If not, our members will severely beat him up."

Comedians have previously been threatened by raja Singh. Despite raja Singh's threats to call off the comic Munawar Faruqui's concert, it was staged under strict security a few years ago. Even though the event went on, raja Singh responded by releasing a video in which he made disparaging remarks about the Prophet Muhammad, nearly inciting a riot in Hyderabad.

Ultimately, though, the bjp mla was taken into custody, imprisoned for a few months, and even had his membership in the party terminated. Nevertheless, it was ultimately withdrawn before to the telangana state elections in 2023.
