In line with their investigation into Hizb-ut-Tahrir, a terrorist outfit that is outlawed, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) carried out a number of searches around tamil Nadu on Sunday. The anti-terror organisation conducted raids in Chennai, Trichy, Pudukottai, Thanjavur, Erode, and Thiruppur, among other places.
 
Abdul Khan, who rented acreage near Mandaiyur in Pudukkotai, and Ahmed, a resident of Kulandhai Ammaal nagar in Thanjavur, were the main targets of the searches. In an effort to gather evidence and identify persons connected to the terror group, tamil Nadu police also participated in the simultaneous searches. There is now more research being done.

The raids come after a man was apprehended by the NIA in 2021 following searches at multiple tamil Nadu locations in connection with the madurai Hizb-ut-Tahrir module case. The case was first filed at the Thideer nagar police station in madurai city and was first lodged under many counts of the indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 13(1)(b) of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.
 
Mohammed Iqbal, the main suspect, is accused of using his facebook account, "Thoonga Vizhigal Rendu is in Kazimar Street," to publish offensive content against a certain community, so causing discord between other religious groups.
