In hindi, kalki 2898 AD has surpassed all expectations. Prior to its premiere, the movie didn't seem to be getting much attention in the hindi markets, and estimates pointed to a mediocre opening weekend of less than 15 crores. But on Thursday, the movie shocked everyone by taking in Rs. 21 crores.

Its momentum has only become stronger since then. Despite the major world cup cricket match on Saturday, kalki managed to raise 26 crores, up from the 22 crores collected on Friday. kalki 2898 AD is in full swing on Sunday. Early predictions indicate that the movie may earn between 33 and 35 crores by the end of the day, but capacity concerns are plaguing it at big theatres. A fantastic total of between 102 and 104 crores net is anticipated for the four-day weekend.

Despite its plodding and dull first part, the movie has been well-received by family audiences, especially children. The legendary aspect has also struck a chord with the audience in the North. But tomorrow is when the real test starts. To break even, the movie must gross a minimum of 200 crores net during its entire run. Anil Thadani paid 100 crores for the picture, but for it to be considered a hit, it has to gross above 225 crores, with a distributor share of 125 crores.

With Monday's 50% decline expected to bring in receipts of about 11-12 crores, the movie is expected to make 200 crores net in hindi in three weeks. However, the situation might alter if Monday's collections decline sharply, as they did with Adipurush. On the other hand, given the present trend, it is expected that kalki 2898 AD will easily make it to the breakeven point in Hindi.
