The senior leader of the Sri Lankan tamil, R. Sambandhan MP passed away today.
Rajavarothiam Sampanthan ( 5 february 1933 – 30 june 2024) was a Sri Lankan tamil politician and lawyer who led the tamil National Alliance from 2001 to his death in 2024. He was a Member of parliament from 2001 until his death, and previously served as a Member of parliament from 1977 to 1983 and from 1997 to 2000. He was the leader of the Opposition from september 2015 to december 2018.[1][2]
Senior leader of the Sri Lankan tamil Republic Party and the head of the tamil National Federation, Mr. Sambandan MP. He held office. In this case, due to his old age, he had been suffering from health problems for some days and was receiving treatment. And over the past few days, his condition has further deteriorated.
In this case, today the senior leader of the Sri Lankan tamil Republic Party I. Sambandhan (91) passed away. He was also a veteran leader who spoke for the rights of Tamils in Sri Lanka. It is also noted that he served as a member of the Sri Lankan parliament for more than 50 years as the leader of the tamil National Federation.
Political party leaders including Eastern Province governor Senthil Thondaman are expressing their condolences on his death.
