It seems that the domestic box office is heavily biased towards South indian films. If we examine the highest-grossing domestic films at the indian box office, we can understand the same. Of course, Baahubali 2 is at the top of the list, followed by kgf, rrr, and now Kalki. There is just one hindi movie in the top 5, and that is Jawan.

Based on data published on Wikipedia, Baahubali 2 is the highest-grossing indian film, having made over Rs 1400 crore domestically. Right now, it's pretty much impossible to beat this total. kgf 2, with a domestic revenue of almost Rs 1000 crore, comes in second. RRR, with Rs 944 Cr, comes in third place.

Although Kalki, with Rs 772 Cr, was ready to surpass this total, it didn't quite work out. It is important to acknowledge that rrr profited much from its remarkable performance in the telugu states. Jawan, the only bollywood movie in the top 5, comes in at number five on the list with Rs 761 crore. Interestingly, Jawan was also directed by Atlee, a South indian film director. Currently, bollywood, with all its riches, has just one of the top five highest-grossing films in the country, while telugu cinema has three of them. Even if Bolly can't defeat Baahubali 2, they should make defeating rrr or kgf their next realistic goal.
