The plan put out by the local political organisation Ittehad-e-Millat Council (IMC) to marry off large numbers of non-Muslim men and women who have converted to islam has been shelved when the district government withdrew its approval.

The event's organiser, Maulana Tauqeer Raza Khan, the head of the IMC, stated, "We operate within the bounds of the law." The programme for mass marriage will only take place with the administration's approval. We asked the administration for permission, but we were not granted it. The administration must give clearance before the programme may take place.

Nadeem Qureshi, the state in-charge of the IMC, said that the municipal magistrate had not granted authority to convert and consummate marriages. Thus, he said, the programme has been postponed for the time being.

"Men and women who have converted from hinduism to islam will be married. Five couples will marry in the first phase, during which the men and women will finish the conversion process and embrace each other," the IMC leader had previously stated.

The district administration rejected the IMC's request for authorization to hold the rally on tuesday night.

Late on tuesday night, district Magistrate ravindra Kumar said that the IMC had asked the city magistrate for permission to host a religious conversion and marriage ceremony.

"The religious conversion and marriage programme has been delayed by IMC, and approval for the same has not been granted. The officer stated, "The administration has got the letter from IMC advising of the program's postponement.

"The marriage of men and women who have converted from hinduism to islam will be conducted," Khan stated on monday while speaking to local media. "In the first phase, five couples will get married, in which the men and women will complete the process of conversion and embrace each other."

"The mass marriage ceremony is scheduled to take place at Khalil Higher Secondary school on July 21 at 11 a.m. Additionally, permission from the administration has been requested for this," he continued.

Hindu groups staged a demonstration and demanded action against Khan here on tuesday in response to the issue surrounding the IMC chief's proposed "mass marriage programme after conversion." Additionally, the demonstrators wrote the district magistrate memoranda outlining their demands.
