As anticipated, the Peddavagu project's bund was broken as a result of significant floods during the previous several days. In both telugu states, tens of thousands of inhabitants were drowned, leaving hundreds of acres of crops, homes, cattle, and belongings at the mercy of the elements.

Numerous irrigation tanks were overflowing as a result of the nonstop rain that had been falling for the preceding few days. In Andhra Pradesh's Buttayagudem Mandal in eluru district, a few small irrigation tanks had burst. At the Peddavagu project in the Aswaraopeta mandal of the Bhadradri-Kothagudem district, that water began to accumulate.

"I have spent around Rs 20-30 lakh on my 80 acres of green chili crop. The whole field has been coated with sand. It will take a significant amount of time even to prepare the pitch. The water carried away everything that was within the house. I'm at a loss on what to do. A farmer from the village of Narayanapuram who lost his whole crop remarked, "The only people who can get us out of this position are the authorities.

One of the three gates stopped working

Even though the Peddavagu project's three gates were releasing 35,000 cusecs on thursday, the inflows totaled almost 70,000 cusecs. Something went wrong with one of the three gates; it was mechanical. On thursday, at 3:30 p.m., water began to overflow the bund. Authorities began relocating residents of the surrounding communities to safer locations after receiving information about the risk. As anticipated, at around 7:45 p.m., a 250-meter-long project bund near the Katta Maisamma temple was broken in the village of Narayanapuram. The anticipated cost of repairs for the breached bund was Rs 20 crore.

Devastation in Andhra Pradesh
In the Velairpadu mandal of the eluru district, about 10 villages were submerged. Allurinagar, Vasanthawada, Koyamadaram, Ontibanda, Kammavarigudem, Kothapuchirala, Pathapuchirala, Sothigollagudem, and Gundlavai inhabitants fled to safety, leaving behind all of their belongings in their submerged homes.

Communication has been completely stopped since the power supply has been halted since thursday morning. The flood's intensity wrecked hundreds of electrical poles and transformers.

Official negligence
The irrigation officials' failure to release water from one of the two gates before it was too late, despite being aware of the heavy inflows and the rain alerts issued by the indian Meteorological Department (IMD) beforehand, is thought to be the cause of the project breach. Despite the project having three gates, it is believed that the unexpected failure of one of the gates is what caused the project to become overloaded during periods of high inflow.
